Message from B.L. Deekshatulu

Distinguished Scientist & Director, NRSA (Retd.), India.

It is heartening to note that the 20th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) is going to be organized in November, 1999. Two decades of journey made by the Association has made remarkable impact on the Asians.

Looking back to the past we all realize that regional environments are derived as well as causative of global processes. Remote sensing has played a very vital role in understanding the large-scale processes, agricultural pattern, environmental degradation, deforestation, role of Asian monsoon and socio economics in the evolution of the world. The annual conferences of ACRS has provided excellent forum to exchange scientific knowledge and wisdom for the problems relevant to the region.

Thus the ACRS have contributed a lot in building awareness and promoting operational Remote Sensing technology/ applications in solving problems. Dr. Shunji Murai has been the visionary in conceiving these conferences annually and has inculcated a spirit of participation, achievements and togetherness among the Asian nations.

I wish the Mission of ACRS will blossom and attain new heights for the benefit of all the people of Asia.
