Extracts from the 13th General Conference
Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, 1993
The General Conference was held during the 14th ACRS at Tehran. Mr. Farshid Jahedi of the Iranian Remote Sensing Centre Presided. Australia, Bangladesh, China, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Thailand, Canada and Netherlands attended.
Election of Deputy General Secretary was added to the agenda of the meeting. The registration fee for the ACRS continued to be US$50.00, but it was suggested that the sustaining membership fee should be increased to US$500.00 from 1995.
Professor Shunji Murai announced that the book " Remote Sensing Notes" could be purchased by AARS members at a special price of US$25.00 per copy. He also suggested that the AARS members would get free copyright to translate the English version to any local language. It was further announced that the Japanese version is already available and the Chinese version is in the print.
Professor Murai, who was the President of the ISPRS until 1996, introduced the ISPRS activities and the relation with ISPRS. Mr. Nik Nasruddin Mahmood was elected as the reporter of the 14th ACRS to the ISPRS official Journal "Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing".
The general conference approved the proposal of Dr. Ryutro Tateishi of Japan to establish a Woking Group on 1 km NOAA AVHRR cloud free mosaic data. It was agreed that details of the proposal should be submitted to the AARS members for finalizing the implementation of the project.
The general conclusions of the General Conference were:
- A big and positive impact was given to Iranian remote sensing community by the ACRS in Tehran and the mass media impact was very positive;
- More regional communication and co-operation shall be encouraged in Asia through ACRS as well as AARS activities;
- More attention shall be paid to GIS and global study at future ACRS;
- Some financial support shall be offered to allow more speakers from developing countries to participate in the conference.
