Extracts from the 8th General Conference
Bangkok, Thailand, 1988
The General Conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 24 and 28 November 1988 under the chairmanship of Dr. Choompol Swasdiyakorn, Secretary General, National Research Council of Thailand. Seven countries participated: Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia and Mongolia. Three new members were admitted to AARS: Malaysia, Mongolia and Pakistan.
The General Conference decided to invite applications for sustaining members from any organization interested in activities of AARS.
The General Conference expressed its gratitude to Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn for her gracious presence and the magnificent presentation during the opening session of the 9th ACRS held in Bangkok from 24-28 November 1988. It was also the first experience for the ACRS to have a high dignitary as Her Royal Highness to attend the conference for four full days.
The General Conference resolved that introduction of ACRS activities will be made at the Regional Meeting of ISPRs, Kyoto Congress. It was further resolved that working groups on specific topics will be formed at the next ACRS and any suggestions in that respect was requested.
The General Conference also resolved that besides ACRS, AARS should promote to take actions to hold seminars, tutorials, or any other training courses within the Asian Region in cooperation with International or Regional organizations.
